School Board Seeks Input in Setting Goals for DMPS

The Des Moines School Board is seeking the community鈥檚 input as it reviews and updates goals for Iowa鈥檚 largest provider of PK-12 education.聽An important part of the goal setting process is hearing from members of the public, which can be done through an online survey as well as upcoming in-person and virtual meetings.

The School Board invites the community to participate in an online survey, which provides an opportunity to share ideas about the knowledge and skills students should acquire in school as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the school district.

The survey is available at聽. It can be completed any time between now and Friday, January 12.

鈥淭he board believes deeply in the power of community voices. Our schools are not just buildings; our students are not just youth – they are the future of our community.

Setting our goals is critical work for the School Board, providing us and district leaders with a roadmap for the coming years to help our students and staff succeed,鈥 said Jackie Norris, chair of the Des Moines School Board. 鈥淲e invite and encourage the community to share their ideas and input. As a public school district, we value hearing from the public about this important work that impacts our entire community.鈥

Last month the School Board began hosting a series of listening sessions throughout the district for the public to weigh in on the district鈥檚 goals. Three additional sessions for the public are being held this month:
